IMPORTANT NEWS - AKC has recently sent a letter to all pointing breed dog clubs stating that,pending AKC Board approval, they are going to approve the use of GPS enabled tracking devices at AKC field trials and hunt tests starting August 1, 2009.
Garmin has come out with their new Astro Bundle that includes the totally redesigned and updated DC 30. What an improvement. For those who don't know, the Garmin Astro Bundle is a GPS tracking unit for you and your good dog. Not only can you track and locate your dog, the Garmin 220 Receiver also functions like a true GPS unit so you'll be able to find your way back to the vehicle after a long day of hunting.
The DC 30 is an excellent improvement over the DC 20 in so many ways. It's a fully integrated collar where the GPS transmitter is under the dog's neck (so you don't have to worry about a counter-balancing weight) and the antenna is pointing towards the sky for great GPS reception. Speaking of the antenna, it's nice and flexible yet strong so you won't have to worry about it ripping off the first time your dog runs under a fence. All of this is set around and in a nice double ply nylon collar. Speaking of tough, when Garmin attached the GPS transmitter unit to the collar they did it with metal this time not the breakable plastic that they used on the DC 20. We can't say it enough - what a great improvement.
